Mockup of dashboard. Final layout (I hope) although the big hole
required for the tacho might weaken the dash. Hmm...
|

Another picture of the mockup. After looking at all the variations
that others have used, I decided to have the bottom edge of the
dash straight across so I had to cut some holes for the stalks
to poke through.

And... The actual dash in place. The machine turned ally was a
bit of a bugger to cut. I didn't know what type of ally it is
but it seemed very soft. Disappointingly I found a scratch in
the finish on one side despite the fact it was covered in a plastic
film.

Seat belt bar in place. Just need to get it welded in now. It's
made from CDS tube. I found a program on the Internet that produced
a printout in PDF format of the notch profile. Just a matter of
filing it to shape once I had stuck it on the end of the tube..

The two different types of torpedo light. The
one on the left has a sharper"rear" and is not SVA
compliant. Due to a cock-up I ended up with one of each! SVC
sorted it in the end and refunded the postage.

Modified with ex-ABS wiring and connector fitted
plus I changed all the screws for stainless ones. The mounting
bolts were AF!. Difficult to see but I shaped the foot slightly
using a flapwheel so that it matched the curvature of the wing.

Exhaust clamp used to mount the wing stay. I found
that the 52mm ones that fitted the upright correctly didn't have
enough thread to fit a nylock nut. So I bought some 55mm ones
and squashed them slightly in the vice to make them fit. Also
added some heat shrink to help grip the upright. Hopefully this
will avoid the problem of the wing stay not staying in position
when on the move.

Difficult to see here but this is the underside
of the wing. I bonded on two tiwrap bases with some body filler
to tie the cable out of the way.

Wing stay fitted and wiring for the torpedo in
place. I use the wiring from the ABS of the donor car which is
tough as old boots and has a waterproof connector. Could have
been designed for the job (well I suppose it was really)

Wing fitted and torpedo light in place. Was it
worth the effort - hmm. Well it would be easy for someone else
to do it now I have sorted out the wrinkles.

Something else to polish....

The stainless mesh that I bought from Ebay for
the grill was fairly dull so I thought I would see if it polished
up using a stainless steel polishing kit I had bought to play
with. On the left is the polished area. Seems to be good!

I epoxied some ti-wrap bases to the inside of the
nose cone.
|

Grill fitted using ti-wraps. Simple and easy to
remove at painting time. I am not too happy about the sharp edges
where the mesh is cut to fit. I might try to cover them with something
or I can foresee a nasty cut at some later date when I have forgot
they are there!
|

From the outside. Mesh is polished although quite
difficult to see in the picture. I purposely cut the grill short
of the oval holes as I plan to do something else with those. You
can just see the crease I put in the centre of the grill to match
the shape of the cut out in the nose cone.

A close up shot of the grill - a bit easier to
see the shiny finish.

I kept the badges from the donor and found that
one of them was curved. After a bit of judicious filing it fitted
the curve on the top of the nose cone quite well.
