Matt Cowan is an up and coming influential designer
who is currently residing in the north of England. At 31 he has
already worked across a wide range of disciplines to help develop
everything from submarines, household objects, chairs, ceramics
and glassware for clients based in Europe, Asia and North America.
Born in England, Matt spent his early professional
years working in Aberdeen, Scotland while studying part time at
Leeds and York University where he focused on Mechanical Engineering,
Design and Creative Technology. In his personal time he later
started experimenting with furniture design, ceramics and glassware.
In 2002, Matt Cowan moved to Eastern Europe where
he was involved with a major French based oil and gas contractor
to design and oversee manufacture of remotely operated submarine
deployment mechanisms. He has since conceptually designed many
popular industrial products some of which are still to be released.
His occupation and passion has taken him to many areas of the
world where he draws influence and inspiration from local culture
and customs. His pass times include photography, which matt believes
goes hand in hand with design since it teachs about composition,
form and structure.
His designs have graced the covers of many popular
worldwide engineering publications, UK government Ministry of
Defence presentations and the BBC Television and News Website.
Matt is now focusing on the future and the next stage of his professional
development with the design of offshore subsea tooling designed
for harsh environments. Matts hobbies include the visualisation
of household objects and product design including furniture and
glassware.
Now settled in northern England with his wife
and family, he continues to focus on engineering and product design,
his two main passions. Although now in full time employment Matt
maintains a diverse and healthy client list for work on freelance
projects, some of which are detailed in his design catalogue,
which is available for client review and on this website. The
main strengths of this innovative and creative designer are 3D
conceptual product visualisation designs and mechanical draughting.
Other skills include an engineering design background and strong
engineering manufacture skills.
Welcome to his portfolio....
