Wow isn't it good to have a race on a weekend, everyone up bright and early - just a few spots of rain around early on and some of the teams still recovering from their exploits at Le Mans 24 hr Prokart Race (question is does Howard Lucas have any spare axles!!.
From the lights Roy in the RPS kart took advantage of a clear track ahead of himself to try and establish an early lead ahead of the scrapping pack of GKD46, Carcoon, GKD66 and BalmForth. As usual good close clean racing from very evenly matched teams. An early casualty was Dan in the Carcoon karthaving a quick spin with Motrade in their pristine new livery trying to avoid any contact by taking to the grass, Dave Shaw in GKD66 also paying an early visit to the pits - someone said he needed a cup of tea as did nothing to the kart! but seemed to pick up his pace afterwards!
Meanwhile RPS were stretching the lead - Roy had been in this position before - would his team mate be able to maintain the pace after the driver change against the teams with one driver? Balmforth racing (41) having broken away from the rest of the group had made a brave attempt to stay with RPS.
With the onset of driver changes the order started to change but Roy staying out as long as he could to hand over a good lead to his son (sorry mate forgot your name) the following battle of GKD46 and Carcoon had been going on most of the race and later to be joined by GKD46 - they were gradually whittling down the lead but not quick enough - and they were left to battle for 2nd 3rd and 4th between them and what a good scrap it was too - Mike Thoms (66) having to ride the kerbs to stay alongside Carcoon for the last lap and at the line just 0.41 seconds separated the 3 of them.
Next Round Wednesday 2nd August
