Bought with the proceeds of the Renault 5 insurance payout when that got tail ended. Had to add £25 of my own money to make up the bargain £675. It was always a bit tatty, but great fun on the commute down the lanes between Chelmsford and Harlow.

There were a couple of mis-haps - the dent on the rear quarter came from spinning it across the road on some mud, and the tailgate had to be repaired due to a towing incident - Escort Mk1 with no driver!!. A pheasant was also dispensed with in this car, but not without taking out a headlight, headlight mounts, and indicator!

Jumping over a hump-back bridge twice a day eventually did for the suspension crossmember and I had to steal one from my donor car (building the 1st 205 rally car at the time) to get it through the MOT.

Had to replace the rear seats when I used it to collect a vintage stationary engine, which leaked oil and water everywhere!

It even had motorsport pedigree - 1st in the highly competitive small FWD class on the CMC Grass Autotest in 2001.

It made it to Wales, and then was relinquished to 'just in case spare shell' duty until I sold it on for spares to another 205 challenge competitor.

20000 miles for a few hundred quid, and plenty of smiles!
