My first car. Bought for £650 locally in Sheffield. My parents had told me not to buy a car, but what did they know!

However, although it wasn't bad, it was going to need a bit of welding sooner or later, and in the end I decided to sell it before MOT time came around, otherwise I might have become car-less.

It had nice bucket seats, and a T-shifter, which was a bit horrible to use as it was a LHD one with the button on the wrong side.

I put signs in it's windows (half hearted attempt to sell it), and had someone phone me up offering a swap for a Ford Cortina. I told him no, but then he turned up anyway and the Cortina was low mileage and in very nice condition.....

Anyway, the bloke with the Cortina got it, had it welded up, prepped it by hand, had it painted white, and sort of improved it whilst making it very mundane and normal. It was well known in the Sheffield area as the "Eagle Bug" despite having a Scarab Beetle on the bonnet. No-one will notice it now, although I note that it's still registered (and still white!).

I was well into the VW scene at the time, and went to Bug Jam in 1990, and then a few more events over the following years. Various friends and friends of friends had beetles or camper vans.

The photos are at Rother Valley Country Park and a local playfield near Dore in Sheffield. The ones of it in white are in Salford.
