This car was a 'freebie'. It used to belong to the in-laws and had done an awful lot of caravan towing in it's life. We were likely to be car-less (well actually having several cars, but none of them roadworthy), when we sold the Red Alhambra, so we accepted the offer of a free car for the iterim period.

Considering it's 162000 miles and aforementioned towing history, it was in remarkable mechanical shape - still on its first clutch, 1st alternator, with no engine work having taken place, and with FSH. I was the third owner, and of course knew the 2nd owner, and the 1st owner as well as he was a friend of the in-laws).

We ended up getting a replacement people carrier pretty quickly, but I kept it on the road as I was doing a load of motorway miles with work, and the 205 Mi16 was starting to play up a bit.

I did over 10000 miles in it in the space of exactly a year before selling it on for £100. It did fantastic fuel economy - I managed 55mpg out of one tank!, and it was generally reliable. It did have a recurring brake problem where the pedal would go to the floor. I replaced the master cylinder which fixed it for about 6 months, but then it happended again - a bleed sorted it out..... The power steering fluid leaked out one day, but that was self inflicted (lots of unnecessary driving down the back lane through snow for fun pulled the PS pipe down onto the road). This was fixed with a spare 205 coolant pipe.

The chav alloys went on as they were kicking arond the garage (came with the 205 Mi16) when the tyres it came with wore out. It was certainly a wheels worth more than car situation then.

When my in-laws bought the car (2 years old, 70000 miles), their friend promised them it had another 100,000 miles in it. I proved that as it had 172475 on it when I sold it! Cheapest car I've ever run - by a long way! I do like Peugeot 405s.
