After getting rid of the Alfa 146 I had to get something cheap, but wanted a car that handled properly (unlike the Alfa). When I was a teenager my parents had a 405, so I knew they handled well, so I kept an eye out for an Mi16.

The LeMans turned up on ebay, I made a phone call to discuss the condition, put my bid in and it was mine for £920. It needed some work on the brakes (new pads, disks all round), but other than that it was fine.

The Lemans is the very last of the Mi16s, with the slightly less powerful 2.0 engine rather than the earlier 1.9. They come with all the toys though, including CD changer, thermostatic air con, Leather/seude seats, and electric everything.

I really liked this car. It was quick (a load faster than Mat's 306 S16 despite having the same engine), and managed to provide plenty of luxury as well. The engine was great - one of those that always wants to be revved and driven that bit faster all the time.

It would really shift, but running it flat out for too long without synthetic oil in is not a good idea, and in so doing I spun a bearing - I also did this with my 309GTI, so should have learnt!

I decided that it wasn't worth trying to fix, so I sold it again on ebay for £430 as spares or repair. I'd have another one.
