Ten years on from when I bought the Harrier, its seems incredible that you could pick up a rock solid Escort Mk2 with no welding and not needing any - with an uprated engine for £500. It didn't seem strange back then, but you'd be looking at least five times that now.
The car did have a blown diff, but it came with a new axle/diff to mend it with as well as a set of Harrier stickers (it had RS2000 stickers on it despite being a Harrier) and a new boot carpet. It had a pair of RS Recaros and an RS instrument pod as well as a 2.1 Pinto with some sort of uprated cam and a decent carb, and a Janspeed exhaust.
I replaced the diff, mended a small dent on one of the rear wings (badly), fitted a stereo! and ran it as course opening car on the East Anglian classic. It was a bit loud and I got told off at one point, but it was great fun and really fast - the engine upgrades evident over my Mk2 Escort rally car.
I then sold it one for about £1100 with tax and MOT - a bargain. The recipient ran it on a couple of sprints before the engine blew. I see that its been unlicensed since 2002, so hopefully hasn't been wrecked as this is the best condition unrestored Mk2 I've even seen.
I so wish I hadn't sold my Mk2s!
