The Granada Scorpio had provided good service, but seemed to have taken a turn for the worse. Suddenly everything started breaking on it, so I started looking out for a fairly new replacement tow car.

The 406 turned up near Caerphilly at a car dealer and I persuaded them to take the Granada in part exchange - they seemed quite happy with the deal.... The 406 was high mileage (112,000) but only 3 years old, so couldn't complain for £2500 plus the Granada (no-one could really believe how little I'd paid for it - I think they overvalued the Granada).

It was a really nice to drive, went fairly well (got pulled over for overtaking an unmarked police Volvo T4 in it), felt modern, had climate control, CD changer, rain sensitive wipers etc. The only downsides were the fuel economy (it rarely exceeded 30mpg), and that fact that it didn't tow very well. With a trailer on, it sat down at the back, spun its front wheels very easily (not helped by a peaky 16v engine). That said, when we decided to get an MPV, I was sufficiently happy with it to sell it onto my Dad - and its still providing good service with loads more miles on it now in Sheffield.

Apologies to anyone offended by the picture of Mat's arse.
