Exmoor Exit

Season Finale: Fab Forests, Hilarious Hills, and the Best Night Route of the Year.

Exmoor Endurance - 10/11th Oct 2009

After finding a new gearbox after it blew up on the Huntsman, Eddie and I had (fun) stripping it down swapping a selector over. Then as it was in pieces we decided to replace all the bushes - quite a big job in the end. It feels all the better for it though. We decided to be cheapskates and not book any accomodation so drove down at the start to the Exmoor. No problems through scrutineering and we were quickly in the forest.

Day Section: Had a few problems in the forests - it was very slippery, and the handbrake decided not to work on one side. A lot of cones had to be navigated (too much going round cones IMO) meant that the handbrake problem cost us quite a lot of seconds. The selectifs were very good though - nice condition despite the weather.

TheNight Section was brilliant. Lots of tight sections running one into the other. I would have preferred the odd neutral, but overall very good. We were running 2nd (on the night section), but then inexplicable got lost - we still don't know how and lost 13 minutes - ouch. Shortly after that we wrong slotted, and in an attempt to reverse back and turn round, I slammed the car backwards into a bank (very hard). We carried on regardless and finished the event 12th - must do better!

The rear of the car is a real mess, lots of bend panels. Good event though, now where's my slide hammer.
