 The Madernich Contours

FOREWORD

In the time it will take you to read these first few paragraphs, there will be at least one family within this group of islands who is just learning to accept that one of their number has passed from their midst in the most absolute of terms. Whilst there are few of us who relish the thought of adapting to this situation, the event is an unavoidable chapter in the circle of life which is destined catch up with all of us in the end. True, there could be a justifiable feeling of relief in the hearts of the families who have been overburdened with the suffering of the terminally ill, but equally, there will be little comfort for the loved ones of those who have met their end both tragically and prematurely in the aftermath of a road traffic accident or the terrorist bomb. In both of these chosen examples,  it is always possible that a close member of the victim's family was present to bear witness to the event, which could conceivably have a 'knock on' effect in the form of future psychological problems if there is any suggestion that the incident could have been avoided 'if only'  they had done something differently. Fortunately though for both these examples, the facts are concrete and the evidence is there for all to see in both actuality and law.

Whilst the vast majority of tragedies probably occur in a similarly explainable manner, there are a handful of instances where the situation is not so clear cut. Perhaps a person goes swimming off a beach and all that is ever found is their tell-tale pile of clothes. Who is to say just what happened if no body is ever found?  Then what about the kidnap victim who is never seen after the ransom monies have been paid? At what point should they be officially classified as never to return?

The Madernich Contours

The story I am about to tell has been written in order to confirm that there are in fact other possibilities which, though unexplainable by man, do exist, yet heaven help anyone who has the misfortune to bear witness to one of them as I did. Oh yes, and I will always believe that I was party to my husbands disappearance as the law likes to put it, wickedly compounded in the knowledge that by my own foolishness I managed to loose my teenage daughter as well.

As the file on the disappearance of my husband and daughter remains open to this day, I would be fascinated to see it's contents, but regretfully this seems unlikely as documents such as this seem to be guarded as closely as a state secret; mind you, I have little doubt that it contains more than one finger which is pointing in my direction, contrary to the statements of  the two hundred independent witness statements.

Whilst I imagine that few of those who read my version of events will accept that what I write is really what  happened, I feel it pertinent to point out that before that fateful night I was a sceptic too - and one of the worst kind.
