The Eighties brought out some old ideas from the fashion closet, such as the square, ‘padded shoulders’ look. Pair this style to a below-the-knee skirt and you’re talking Eighties! Longer- length skirts came back in for school-wear too, as well as ‘smart-wear’ designed primarily for the office. Skirts were not necessarily very full (so as not to clash with the ‘square’ look at the top of the outfit), although there were some exceptions as you can see below.
