It goes withour saying that you are welcome to contact us for any advice on period pleated garments.
Age correctness is very important with theatre, TV and film use, but is far less important with, say a fancy dress party. We will however, give the best advice we can on any of these intended uses.
Age can be a very difficult thing to determine, unless a feature or features gives the game away for sure. Thus it is reasonable to say that many of our items may be worn with a degree of latitude.
Girls, women, ladies? Who would wear what and what might be worn when? Contact us again for this sort of information. Remember though that there will be occasions when in a theatrical production, a leading part might be dressed ‘up’ with lesser parts dressed ‘down’ accordingly. In reality of course, this would not have happened, but we can certainly offer suggestions on what outfits stand out above the rest. Many pleated frocks make this relatively easy as you simply add a crinoline or net petticoats to fill out the skirt of the leading part, or even by selecting a full circle skirt over a half-circle variant.
DANCING?
Any show or film with dancing in will benefit from pleated garments as they tend to flow so beautifully. Remember though, that all pleats are NOT the same. Accordion pleat garments are best for dancing because of the built-in ‘A’ line flair. That is not to say that other pleats will not do; take Marilyn Monroes’ famous white dress in the ‘7 Year Itch’as an example. This was an unusual design featuring knife pleats which were attached at the waist in a manner better befitting accordion pleats. Again. Please ask for advice if you are unsure. One last point to remember. Full-circle skirt + dancing = possible embarrassment for the wearer! Care must be taken with undergarments. Need I say more?
Talking of undergarments; most of our hire items do not have a lining with the skirt.
