Prom dresses

NEW! Modern Wedding Dress Hire / Rental for the Theatre, film and for Weddings on a Budget!

I have added this new page for 2007 because of the growing number of accordion pleat 70’s gowns we are hiring out for end of school ‘Proms’. Now the ‘Prom’, for those don’t already know, originated from the US and has only recently been copied  by British schools. For these events, both guys and gals are expected to dress up in their best and attend a type of school leaving party, usually in the form of a dance. Tuxedos and gowns are hired (or occasionally purchased) for the night and it is customary to arrive at the event in a stretch limo or another unusual form of transport ..!

Whilst there are numerous outlets for hiring suitable prom dresses, many teenage girls are seeking something different to wear in order to stand out from the rest of the crowd - hence we are seeing an ever increasing number  turning towards genuine vintage for their special look!

Whilst we are primarily in the business of hiring out vintage clothing for theatrical and TV work, we can no longer ignore the obvious fact that young ladies are finding their way to ‘Just Pleats’ to hire their gown for the evening!

Although we currently do not have a huge selection of gowns to choose from, we hired out a total of 12 items for school Proms in 2006, so are looking towards expanding this side of our collection as time goes on.

As with all of our hire items, for obvious reasons we do not hire out by post and require our customers to select their chosen garment and check for correct fit (to avoid any likelihood of stress damage to the item) before taking it away. Please see our terms for further details.

Note that a few of our gowns still have their matching capelets, as with this example.

(above and right) Checking out the fit of one of our accordion pleat gowns for a late 2006 Prom. A couple of quick digital photos like these can sometimes make it easier to arrive at a decision!

Our gowns not only vary in form size, but in length too, thus making several of them suitable for the shorter or more petite figures. (like the pretty little bottle-green number to the right, complete with antiqued lace trim.)

(above) ~ At home, and only an hour to go now ~ (thank you Mary for the picture!) With such beautifully simple garment designs, a bare minimum of jewellery and accessories are  required to make the ‘Prom Queen’ look her very best on the night.

A recently acquired prom dress, complete with matching capelet for the more petite figure. I wonder how popular this gorgeous little number will prove to be?

March ‘08

Two more for our prom dress collection! At the top we have a very striking deep red example with attached Victorian-influenced lacey ruffle top, and below that we have an ice-blue strappy gown, complete with it’s original Battenburg lace and georgette capelet.

We now have FOUR gowns in an identical style to this in our collection, one in light green (see the image from March 07 above), a coral red one (sadly with no capelet), a tangerine one with capelet, and of course this new one.
