TRASH THE DRESS: The lot of the wedding dress is not necessarily a happy one. For the vast majority of women, it is by far the most expensive item of clothing that she will ever wear, albeit just once and usually for few short hours. After that, if lucky, it will be cleaned before being incarcerated in a tissue-lined box for the forseeable future. There are however a few at this stage which will be literally ‘thown away’ without further thought due to the cost of cleaning and the inconvenience of storage. Most wedding dresses survive many years either in their cardboard box perched in the top of the wardrobe (or in the loft), or in a gown bag (being gradually scrunched up in a corner of the closet) ‘in case’ the daughter wants to wear it when she eventually gets married. This is where the idea of ‘Trash the Dress’ comes into play. No, Trashing the Dress (or TTD for short) does NOT generally mean either damage or destruction, but simply gives a second opportunity for the dress to be worn, though this time in a more unusual and casual situation. |
