tee Ngugi. I'm originally from Kenya, but I now live and work in Namibia. I teach Language and Media at the Polytechnic of Namibia. I have always written short stories, but this is my first attempt at getting any one of them published. Age: im in my late thirties. Ute Maria Elisabeth Gräfin von Hardenberg-Carson was born on the Baltic Coast in Köslin, Pomerania, shortly after the beginning of World War II. As Russian forces swept toward central Europe, she fled westward with her mother and grandmother, settling in what was to become West Germany. There she went to school and attended the Universities of Hamburg and Mainz. Immigrating to America in 1962, she completed her masters at the University of Rochester, becoming a college instructor of German Language and Literature, and Women's Studies. A writer from youth, Carson's first story was published in 1977. For the past 26 years she has continuously published stories and essays in journals, magazines, and books. Her latest publications include Gypsy Spirit in Falling in Love Again - Love the Second Time Around, and A Mantra in Arts and Letters Magazine. Her novel Colt Tailing (2004), a finalist for the Peter Taylor Award for the Novel is available from amazon.com.

Jayanthi Manoj. I am working as a lecturer in English, Holy Cross College, Trichy, Tamilnadu. I am an M.A. Gold medallist and an M.phil topper. I have written a number of poems, a dozen of short stories and essays and two plays. Around 11 poems were published in anthologies edited by THE QUEST, Millennium Peace 2001 and 2002, literary magazines such as Bridge-In-Making, Creative Writing And Criticism, Poet and The Journal of Indian Writing in English (list attached). My poem Stagnation was selected as one among the 14 best poems entered for the Secret Attic Poetry Competition held at United Kingdom. Main themes include women, children and humanity. I am an Associate Member of The Poetry Society of India. I believe that teaching and parenting co-exist and it has to be consistent because it is involved in the growth of the next generation. A best teacher is a patient mother and the best mother is an intellectual teacher.

Charles Clifford Brooks III is from Jasper, Georgia USA and a freelance writer. Most recently he has begun writing an article each month in the local newspaper, the Pickens County Progress, on social issues. His poetry has been published in AEGIS, Awen, Eclectica, Poetry Motel, Admit Two Magazine, Foliate Oak, Confused in a Deeper Way, Wet Ink, Taste Magazine, The Chimes, and Pulsar Magazine. His prose has won the Sassafrass Literary Exchange’s writing competition in Fiction and Nonfiction two years running as well as winning a Rotary Club essay contest which earned him a spot in a World Peace Conference. Within the last month more of his short fiction can be found in Ha! Magazine, Cloud Nine Magazine, Sein and Werden, and Ego Magazine. His senior year at Shorter College, by the nomination of three professors, he was inducted into the National Creative Society which sealed his fate as a man of letters. Today, he is employed by Georgia’s Department of Juvenile Justice where he works with the at-risk children and their families.

 

Okey Ojimba Ekwemoha. I was born in Nigeria but now live in Switzerland. I am married and have two children. I have a bachelors degree in Communications from Chicago state University in the States. At the moment I don’t practice as a journalist because of the very difficult German language! I am doing my best to become a writer instead.

 

Lily Mabura, a Kenyan writer, earned her MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Idaho, USA. Her fiction has appeared in PRISM international and G21 - The World's Magazine. She is also the author of the novel The Pretoria Conspiracy (Focus Publications, Nairobi, 2000), and two children's books: Ali the Little Sultan (Focus Publications, 1999), and Seth the Silly Gorilla (Phoenix Publishers, Nairobi, 2002).

 

Cyril Dabydeen’s recent books of fiction include North of the Equator (Beach holme) and My Brahmin Days (Tsar, 2000).  His work has appeared in journals in Canada, the US, UK, and Europe, Australia, New Zealand, the Caribbean, and India.  He has been nominated for a Journey Prize and a National Magazine Award.

 

Kamptha Karran is a research fellow at the University of Warwick in the UK.  He is originally from Guyana.  His research interest is in the area of ethnic conflict resolution and cultural studies in postcolonial societies.

 

Raymond Humphreys  www.benybont.co.uk is a writer of fiction, essays, articles, reviews and poetry. Born London, of Welsh family. Lived in Wales since 1972. Formerly a local government officer. Numerous magazine publications in UK, USA, Eire, Romania, Argentina, South Africa and Australia.

 

 

Mary Medlicott is a writer and story-teller working with children and adults in performance and community situations.  She mainly lives in London but spends as much time as possible in Pembrokeshire where she grew up.  She has written widely on storytelling and has edited several collections of stories for children, including Tales from Africa (Kingfisher Books).  Her first children’s novel, Open Secret was published earlier this year.

 

Lawrence Patchett is a New Zealand writer who recently spent two years living and working in Bangor, North Wales. He graduated from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, in 1997, with the Sir Winston Rhodes prize for excellence in English literature. He now lives in London, where he studies creative writing at London City University.

 

Monideepa Sahu: I am a former banker writing since 1997.  My non –fiction articles and short fiction in English have been published in mainstream national level publications in #India, such as The Times of India, Deccan Herald, the book Review, and Children’s World.  My short stories have most recently appeared/are due for publication in the Gobshite Quarterly, Pindeldyboz, The Rivendell Gazette, and Long Story Short (all US based).  I live in Bangladore India.

Christopher Barnes in 1998 I won a Northern Arts writers award. In July 200 I read at Waterstones bookshop to promote the anthology 'Titles Are Bitches'. Christmas 2001 I debuted at Newcastle's famous Morden Tower doing a reading of my poems. Each year I read for Proudwords lesbain and gay writing festival and I partake in workshops. 2005 saw the publication of my collection LOVEBITES published by Chanticleer Press, 6/1 Jamaica Mews, Edinburgh.
