Island

Jayanthi Manoj

Suddenly I found myself an island
Floating across the never-ending seas of woes.
A waste of vast resources
Unattended? Neglected? Overlooked?

How long can I in tranquility repose-
Rejoice in my rhymes?
Beyond the horizon of inspiration
A vacant vacuum welcomes me.

My Muse thirsts for experience
Shallow or deep!
Come people! Wage war in my realm
Shatter this isolated peace.

Or at least prick me
So I may write in pain
Or bomb my alienated island
So I may write in terror.
Hurt me to write
For happiness is a world afar.

Let me secede from the sedate state
Seclusion grows me numb.
I want
     Someone to love
     Someone to hate
To let feelings run through every vein.

For
    The past is oblivious
      Future is bleak
   The present is a puzzle
Caught in a never-ending maze.
