Annual Report - July 2008

This is my first year as Beaver leader and what a year it has been! We have had a really brilliant time and everybody seems to have enjoyed it.
We started last year working towards our Animal and Creativity badges which involved a visit to Tam O’Shanter. Following this, the boys brought their pets into our meeting which was great fun. Also, the snake man came to a meeting - which I have to admit was a bit scary.
We finished off the year nicely with Halloween, Fireworks and a Christmas party along with a visiting Santa.
In the spring term we did loads of experiments including volcanoes and air rockets. We had a fun visit to West Kirby Fire station - where we all got wet with the hose.
Air activities and adventure badges were next, which involved all the boys having an opportunity to go on a flight simulator. I’m not quite so sure how many landed safely, though! We also had a knight’s night which involved quests and rescuing damsels in distress!! The term finished off with a visit to Leas owe Lighthouse.
Finally, in the summer term we worked towards our friendship badge. This involved a camping night and fish & chip supper down at West Kirby beach.
Regionally, we had a craft day, Christmas party, St. Georges parade and, of course, our fantastic day out at Hadlow Fields.
Special thanks go to Nina who I could not do without. Her creativity and ideas really help to run a successful colony. Also, thanks to the Duke of Edinburgh girls, Jennifer & Rachel, who turn up every week to help. I get them to do all kinds of mad things!! (Tied to a tree in Queens Park, to name just one!) Thanks also for such willing parents helpers, as without you we couldn’t do it.
Lastly may I thank the Beavers who are always kind, helpful and great fun, well behaved (most of the time) and, let’s face it, why we all do it.
