![]() This is a list of the computers, printers and other peripherals that I have managed to collect since I first started collecting in the spring of 2001. It is interesting to see the way that the design and construction has changed over a fairly short period of time. Basically I didn't really know anything about computers at the time, but after having spent the last thirty years working on cars I had got fed up with them and decided that it was time I got another interest and so now I have a house full of computers. I have found it an interesting pastime to dismantle & clean these old machines. It gives you a chance to try to understand how they work. It is even nicer when you get one that doesn't work when you first get it but by the time you have cleaned and checked it all you manage to get it going. I think that the most useful site I have found for advice is the Obsolete Computer Museum Helpline , a very friendly & helpful group of people. I have learnt a great deal reading through there messages each day. It does seem that IBM tried various different set-ups on there P/S2 range in the early days before settling for the present day standard design. This is partly the reason that I decided to create a list of the part numbers of the components that are in each computer. At least this way if I have a problem with one I can check and see if I have another computer with the same part to try in it. But as is quite often the case in the early machines parts are not that interchangeable. The picture above is of a Transdata Model 305 portable data transmission terminal. This I came across at a local scrap yard in August 2002, does any one remember these. I picked it up because I thought it looked unusual. |
