Lanzarote 2003

There are two things in Lanzarote, apart from the sea and sand. Firstly there are the volcanoes and then there is Cesar Manrique. He is (probably) the only famous person to have come out of Lanzarote, and as such is revered throughout the island.

Found near the resort of Playa Blanca, a couple of old volcanoes. The "lake" at El Golfo, a mixture of sea water and volcanic stuff, leaving the water a lovely emerald colour

Some of the work of Manrique, a sculpture, a mobile and a mural.

A couple of examples of Manrique's architecture. A couple of trees growing out of rooms in his own house. Finally, looking out from Playa Blanca towards Fuarteventura, which is a bit like Lanzarote, but without Manrique. It has an airport, I am told.
