Past Performances

After training in Cuba 1999, mimbre returned with a sunny, smily act to a rainy summer in England. The act was performed at the Streets of Brighton Festival, The Festival of Light (Helsinki), Piste Aux Espoirs/Tournai (Belgium) and the London International Mime Festival, among many others.

Their performances caught the interest of future bookers as well as of performer and director Flick Ferdinando. Inspired by their act, she conceived the idea for "sprung" - a streetshow premiered at the Circus Space Festival in spring 2000, and co-commissioned by National Street Art Festival and Circus Space.

The show immediately grabbed international interest and as well as being performed at major english festivals and venues such as Glastonbury Festival , the Millenium Dome and the Barbican Centre, it crossed the Channel to Chalon Dans La Rue (France); Limburgstraat Festival (Holland); Festival de Rencontres, Lille (France); Tarrega Festival (Spain) and Womad (Spain and Gran Canaria) among many, many others!

By summer 2001, mimbre was an established street performance company in Spain and France, highlights include Jazz Sous Les Pommiers in Coutances; Cergy Soit!; Magdalena Circus Festival in Castello and Trapezi in Reus. The tour also extended to Italy;Mercantia in Certaldo; Armunia Festival, (various locations in Toscany) and Venice (see below). In Great Britain gigs included Alfresco Arts in Jersey; Cowes Day on Isle of Wight; Bristol Harbour Festival and Greenwich and Docklands International Festival in London. Training

From diverse backgrounds in gymnastics, trampolining, juggling and boxing, the three girls of mimbre met in 1996 on a two year performance course at the Circus Space in London. Emma, Lina and Silvia started training together with the intention of breaking a boring tradition in circus and dance of big boys lifting small girls.

Under the personal tuition of Vincente Moreno Espinosa - international coach from the Cuban National Circus they soon reached acrobatic heights far above initial expectations. At the same time they developed a personal and fresh style, influenced by their training in capoeira and movement. Upon the success of the fusion, mimbre was created.

In search of more, in 1999, mimbre travelled to train for three months at The Circus Arts Professional Centre, Havana Cuba, and brought their acrobatic level up to an international standard.

Training and development have always remained important to mimbre. They train daily with their current coach George Tsonev - Olympic Gold medalist in Sports-Acrobatics and have also participated in various specialist workshops with groups such as Les Acrostiches, acrobalance and handstand (France); Ijs en Weder, acrobalance (Netherlands); Flick Ferdinando, physical theatre and performance (London); Tuyo, acrobalance and choreography (Cuba/England); East London Group of Senzala, capoeira; Feets Per Minute, street-dance and break-dance (London).
