Selside School Association - £117.00 - 10.7.07
The small hidden away school of the A6 to the North of Kendal is key to the local community educating the local youngsters through the day and often being used as a village / meeting hall in the evenings. Money will go to it's maintenance and upkeep.

For nearly three decades the Alzheimer's Society has given hope and support to hundreds of thousands of people affected by dementia. Our staff and volunteers are united by an absolute commitment to the goal of building a better world for people with dementia (and those of the poeple who care for them), combat stigma and ignorance, and ensure that everybody affected by dementia can find the help the need.

St. Mary's Hospice, Ulverston - £117.00 - 26.6.07
The most memorable Lanequest venue this year must have been the South lakes animal Park with baboons swinging about, Peacocks crowing and Lions striding around. Organisers John Bettinson and Tony Smith chose the local hospice to care for the terminally ill.

Barnacre Church - £117.00 - 5.6.07
Dolphinholme Lanequest donated to the upkeep of the local grand church. Barnacre church was built in 1905 during the tenure of Austin & Paley. It sits by a small wood and open fields next to a road leading up into the Forest of Bowland. The church is built of stone, and has red tiled roofs. The building is one of a number of Austin & Paley churches of that time with low, broad, heavy towers that appear to hug the earth.

Brain House Children's Hospice - £430.00 - 25.2.07
Brian House provides care and a ‘home from home’ environment for children and young adults from within the Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre areas who have life threatening and/or life limiting conditions. They and their families have multiple complex needs and Brian House provides support for the families and care for the children/young adults who will not be cured of their illness.

The Cave Rescue Organisation is based in Clapham in North Yorkshire and provides the cave and mountain rescue service in the Three Peaks area of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and also extending westwards into Lancashire and Cumbria and eastwards as far as Malham and Gordale.

Horton-in-Ribblesdale Voluntary Aided Church of England Primary School has a long and rich history. It was first endowed as a Grammar School in the sixteenth century and the Old School still stands in Horton churchyard.

The final event at Wilf's had a good turn out raising funds for the animal rights pressure group. They concentrate on trying to change social attitudes and legislation to eradicate animal abuse at source.

This group consists of an entirely voluntary body of individuals who want to serve their community with training and guidance from Cumbria Ambulance Service. The aim of the First Responder Group is to be on scene in any suitable emergency, administering skills which sustain life whilst awaiting professional intervention.

Pennine Bowland Mountain Rescue - £130.00 - 13.6.06
The Whittington event by Malcolm supported the area MRT which turns out in all weathers to help people in trouble in harder to reach places. The team are currently trying to raise the final funding required to allow them to move into new premises. This will be close to the M6 and will drastically reduce response times.

Ravenstonedale School - £280.00 - 19.3.06
Our final event of the series was from the school and the banquet laid on afterwards was provided by the kind ladies of the PTA. The school does very well to keep going in the community so the donation is a way of saying a huge thanks for having us and helping them to continue.

Kendal TQ event chose: Wheels 4 Life is a non-profit organization that provides bikes for people in Third-World countries in need of transportation to get to work or to school, including health care workers. This charity was founded by extreme biking legend and former Mountain Bike World Champion Hans Rey .

Rosemere Cancer Foundation - £280.00 - 20.11.05
One in three people will get cancer. Effective treatment is a major priority for Government but it is expensive. There is little left over for non-essential items which may make all the difference to a patient's experience of the treatment process. This is where the Rosemere Cancer Foundation comes in. As a registered charity, Rosemere aims to provide those 'extras' where possible, for the Rosemere Cancer Centre at Royal Preston Hospital and the local Cancer Units throughout Lancashire and South Cumbria.

The Staveley event run by Andy & Rachel Slattery donated to this fund for Cystic Fibrosis sufferers after seeing a couple of young local lads aged 9 and 10 ride the 150miles Walney to Wear cycle route a year after their close friend Maddie's death.

John Brockbank ran the final Summer Lanequest event at Burneside this year, he chose local Bendrigg Lodge for the charity. The Bendrigg Trust was established in 1978 to specialise in courses and activities for disabled and disadvantaged young people.

Oxenholme Lanequest only mustered 67 entrants this year, but nevertheless, we raised some money for people with cerebral palsy. Scope is a disability organisation in England and Wales whose focus is people with cerebral palsy.

Cockerham Lanequest was a flat fast event down on the Blackpool & Flyde plains. Charity chosen by Paul & Glenys Ferguson. This is the second time we have donated to the North West Air Ambulance.

The grand finale of the winter series was in aid of PRCS as chosen by Rod Carter. The Crosthwaite TQ was run by Jo Ratcliffe and she decided to split the proceeds between 2 charities. The first was for an international charity related to her line of work. WaterAid is dedicated to helping people escape the stranglehold of poverty and disease caused by living without safe water and sanitation. WaterAid works in partnership with local organisations in 15 countries in Africa and Asia to help poor communities establish sustainable water supplies and latrines, close to home.

Cancer Care - £100.00 - 13.3.05
Jo's second choice was a local Cancer Care charity. Their aim is to provide support to patients and families facing cancer in the North Lancashire and South Cumbria area. They have major centres in Lancaster and Kendal providing information, practical help and a wide range of therapeutic and creative activities which can help to reduce anxiety and enhance coping skills.

Mike Hayward's second winter TQ raised money for the local DRF charity. The yearly Fred Whitton Challenge also raises money for the fund. The Dave Rayner Fund has been set up in memory of the late Dave Rayner, to assist ambitious riders (like Dave) to make a successful career from cycle racing on the continent of Europe.

Mike Hayward chose the Cartmel TQ just before Christmas to be for Greenpeace UK. They work on a number of international environmental issues. Kendal Mountain Rescue - £200.00 - 5.12.04
Our first Winter TQ at Oxenholme was run by Barney and he chose for the money to go to KMR. It's a good choice, as who knows when any one of us will need their services in the S.Lakes, Kentmere & The Howgills. They rely entirely on donations from the public. There is no Government funding, and none of the members are paid. All the money from our donation goes solely to running the team.

Kendal Trailquest 2004 provided us with just under £500 to split between charities of mine and Barney's choice. I chose the GNAAS as they do a very good job and it may be any one of us that needs their help someday. As this is written, their 3rd helicopter now based in Carlisle, Cumbria has just been launched and it complements 2 others based in Blyth, Northumberland and Teesside International Airport.

Sandgate Hydrotherapy Pool - £237.50 - 1.8.04
The second benefactor of Kendal TQ, The pool helps those suffering with physical difficulties and is based in the old Sandgate special needs school in Kendal. A charitable trust is being set up to take over running of the pool after April 2005 when Cumbria County Council will no longer provide funding.
