A Brief History of the Community Centre
In April 1967 committees were set up with the aim of building a Community Centre for the two villages. The Cherry Orchard, Old Vicarage Lane was earmarked for the site and outline planning permission was granted to the committee in July 1969.
In 1970 a formal constitution was adopted for the Community Association and in November of that year the Cherry Orchard became the responsibility of the Association.
In January 1973 plans for the Community Centre were submitted to the then Osgoldcross Rural District Council and permission was granted for the building in June 1973. Work starting on the site soon after. In 1975 work on the site ground to a halt and in May 1977 it was decided to board the building up until such time as funds permitted completion.
The Queens Jubilee in 1977 generated new impetus for completing the Centre and work re-commenced. The building was completed in May 1982
Our aim is to extend and improve facilities at the Centre on an ongoing basis as funds become available.
