THE RAMBLERS ASSOCIATION

SURREY AREA
MOLE VALLEY GROUP

The Ramblers' Association Ltd. promotes walking and love of the countryside and is a company Limited by guarantee, registered in England & Wales under Company Registration No.4458492 and is a Registered Charity in England & Wales No.1093577.

The Mole Valley Group subscribes to the aims and objects of the Ramblers' Association to promote rambling, protect rights of way, campaign for access to open county and defend the beauty of the countryside.

The Group was formed in the autumn of 1980 and arranges rambles for its active members which number almost 500. The walks programme is issued to members at four monthly intervals.

We have volunteer members who keep an eye on the condition of the rights of way in most of the parishes within the Mole Valley District Council which is centred on the towns of Dorking and Leatherhead. Through its volunteers, the Group undertakes remedial work in association with the Surrey County Council who are the Highway Authority.

We have about 50 leaders but more are always required.
We are currently achieving about 200 walks each year with around 2,500 attendances. Typically 85% of our walks have taken place in Surrey, 10% in Sussex and the remainder in Kent and Hampshire. Some of the shorter walks are EASY PACE. Half day walks range between 5 and 7 miles whilst whole day walks range between 10 and 14 miles.

Rambling is not a competitive activity but some of our keen walkers do achieve a great deal.

For example, during 2008:-
Six members attended more than 50 walks and exceeded 500 miles
Four other members attended more than 40 walks and walked 250 miles or more

Here are some of the 15 members who did the Seven Sisters walk to Eastbourne
starting out with the climb up Seaford Head.
It was a wonderful fine day - Saturday 4th August 2007.
