HEPATITIS A

This is not usually considered a sexually transmitted disease. It is usually transmitted by the fecal-oral route with outbreaks due to contaminated food or water.

Cause: the hepatitis A virus

Symptoms: loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, yellow tinge to eyes or skin

Complications: Usually none

Treatment: Only supportive care is usually necessary.

Prevention: Don't engage in oral-anal sexual contact. This practice occurs almost exclusively with male homosexuals.
