CHOOSING TO WAIT

Maybe you've decided not to be sexually active just yet. Congratulations! Resisting social and peer pressure takes a lot of courage. Many people feel that it's best to choose to wait. Young women are sometimes too vulnerable and too easily hurt or exploited.

If you're not going to be sexually intimate, that doesn't mean that you won't have sexual feelings and emotions. You will! Don't try to suppress or ignore them. Instead, choose to express them in non-sexual ways like dancing, sports or artistic hobbies.

Once you choose to postpone intimacy, you have to decide exactly how physical your relationships will be. To avoid misunderstandings, make it clear at the outset that you're only interested in friendship, not romance. You can always change your mind later; guys understand that very well. Agree to limit your physical expression of affection to hugging and holding hands or whatever works for you. Be specific! Base your relationships on developing friendships and having fun. Double date or go out as a group. Keep it light and enjoy your youth!
