Many people are able to lose substantial amounts. From that experience we offer you Secrets of Losing Weight.
MAKE SURE YOU CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE
BEGINNING ANY DIET OR EXERCISE PROGRAM!
1. There is no easy way to lose weight. Stop trying to find one.
2. There is no "magic diet." Quit looking for it.
3. It is very simple! In order to lose weight only two things are necessary: (1) eat less calories, and (2) exercise more.
4. It doesn't matter how little you are eating now, in order to lose weight you have to eat less! (Always eat at least 500 calories per day, including 2 ounces of protein. Drink plenty of water.)
5. Regardless how much you are exercising now you probably have to exercise more! This is essential to any weight loss program. The minimum amount of exercise is 3 hours per week. This means an hour every other day or 30 minutes per day. The exercise must be aerobic in nature: running, swimming, aerobics or an exercise bicycle. You have to push yourself; this is what resets your metabolism so you burn up more calories 24 hours a day. At the end of the 30 or 60 minutes, you should feel tired and out of breath. Your pulse should be substantially increased and you should be perspiring.
6. Exercise is more important than diet. Ask Oprah!
7. Diet pills that decrease your appetite and diuretics (water pills) are not useful and have dangerous side effects. Nature provides an excellent appetite suppressant: caffeine. Caffeine is contained in many drinks especially coffee, tea, and cola beverages. Most people drink these beverages after a meal when their appetite suppressant effect is wasted. In order to use caffeine as a diet aid you should drink one of these one hour before a meal. Coffee has the most caffeine, tea somewhat less, and the cola beverages least of all. If you drink coffee or tea, stir in as much sugar as you like; it never adds up to more than 20 or 30 calories. Drink only diet colas since regular colas contain 200-300 calories. Caffeine can also be purchased without a prescription. Take one tablet an hour before meals.
8. There is a new drug which can help you lose weight. It blocks absorption of fat. It can be ordered on-line.
9. All calories are not equal. Calories taken early in the day are less harmful because you have time to burn them off. If you are going to eat one meal a day it should be breakfast. Many people eat a big dinner and go to bed shortly thereafter. Your body has no opportunity to burn off the calories so it stores them which is what you don't want.
10. Gradual weight loss is the key to any successful program. It is not possible to lose the amounts claimed in the magazines. One pound of fat contains approximately three thousand calories, so the loss of even two pounds per week provides almost one thousand calories a day. A good rate of weight loss is one to two pounds per month. Be patient!
11. Check with your doctor before beginning any diet or exercise program! There are some hormonal causes of obesity, including hypothyroidism. In my experience, these are found in less than 5% of women tested.
12. Weight control problems are usually genetic in nature. You can blame your parents or complain that life isn't fair. You can also accept your challenge and deal with it.
13. In case you need more motivation to lose weight, here is a partial list of the medical problems whose frequency is increased by obesity: diabetes, high blood pressure, heart attacks, strokes, arthritis, gall stones, back, hip, knee, ankle and foot problems and cancer of the breast, uterus, ovary, gall bladder and colon. Obesity also increase the risks of surgery and childbirth.
