Bricola Hut, (2500m), Val d'Herens,

Valais, Switzerland.

This easy half day walk starts from the village of Ferpecle. A good path leads all the way to the Bricola Hut which is shown on the final picture on the page.

This walk was first completed on the 10.7.97 during a quite humid and somewhat overcast day. Near the end the there was a thunderstorm with torrential rain. The route to the hut takes about 1.5 hours.  On the 11.7.99 we revisited the Bricola Hut.

During the ascent fine views are enjoyed across to Mont Mine (2914m) and the Mont Mine Glacier with the Aiguille de la Tsa beyond. The first picture shows the approach to the hut, with the hut lying to the top left handside of the photograph on the ridge. Mont Mine features in both pictures.

An interesting aspect is gained towards the Dent Blanche( 4357m) which towers above the Bricola Hut. Althought, the day was partly cloudy the summit remained visible till shortly before the thunderstorms began. Views extend south to the Glacier de Ferpecle with the col d'Herens in the distance.

The hut is occupies an elevated position on the Bricola Alp and is surrounded by abandoned shepherd huts. this view looks back towards Ferpecle and the Val d'Herens.

A distinctive "thistle" like plant grew near the hut and is shown in the foreground of the photograph.

On the return walk we visited the fast flowing river and outwash plain issuing from the Mont Mine Glacier. There were many large erratic blocks littering the area.
