Part 2 Connecting & testing the radio control unit This section covers fitting & testing the radio control gear. Stage 10 Now comes the fitting & testing of the radio control gear. Go back to stage 4 & just install the motors, not the drive sprocket. There is very little room so you might have to lightly bend your motor contacts to get it to fit. To ease in the removal of the radio gear for other models or for any repair I soldered & then insulated a connector on the motor leads. The best thing is to buy a cable used to power disc drives in a computer as they are cheap & only the plugs to match one way. E-Mail me for a 5 page wiring guide if required.
It is cheaper in the long term to use a standard re-chargable remote control battery to drive the motors. On the control unit I connected the other end of the the motor connector & then the connector for the battery.
Connect up the motor to the control unit & then connect up the servo wires to your radio receiver. DO NOT CONNECT the battery yet in case your motors start turning. To test the motors switch on your transmitter & receiver & check that the servos move freely. If needs be adjust your trim tabs to centre both servos. Then connect the motor battery & test the forward/reverse & turning controls work. The turning servo works by stopping one motor & allowing the other to turn the model. As you can see below there is plenty of room in the base for all the gear. Disconnect the receiver & the control gear
Part 3 will be the fitting of the main body parts .Click here for next page
