A
steeply shelved shingle beach . The fish most likely to be caught here
are Pout, Whiting, Flounder, Dogfish, The odd Bass. The bottom is fishing
over mud, clay and sandy patches. The water is quite deep as you go
towards Browndown but it shallows the nearer to the HMS Daedelus slipway
that you go.
ISAC Anglers fished Lee-on-Solent 2002 on the 27 April where 1 x Bass, 7 x Dogfish, 1 x Starry Smoothound, 405 x Pout, 4 x Rockling and 22 Silver Eel`s were registered at the scales by 73 entrants for a total weight of 110lb. COLIN
RICHARDS from Chepstow ,a 32 year old financial consultant. Colin
won zone C from peg 77 which was located at the beach huts just to
the left of the sea front arcade. From there he caught 14 x pout,
1 x Rockling and Dogfish, the heaviest fish in zone at 15ozs, 0,425grams,
for a zone and match winning weight of 4lb 10 and a quarter ozs, 2.104kgms.
This was Colin`s first ISAC victory which saw him win £155
and the Round 4 Championship trophy and certificate. The match Runner-Up
was VIC PHILLIPS from Bartley, Southampton who also recorded hit best
ever result in the league. Vic won zone B from peg 35, the first placed
peg to the right of the Yacht Club slipway. It was from here that
Vic caught the heaviest fish of the match a Bass of 2lb 6ozs, 1,77kgms
together with 8 x Pout for a total zone winning weight of 4lb 2 and
a half ozs, 1,885kgms. Vic won his first ISAC medal, silver and certificate
and a £115
cash prize. In third place overall was JOSH SIMMONDS from Weymouth.
A victory here in 2000, Josh won zone D from peg 84, which was placed
in front of the Waterfront Cafe, with a weight of 3lb 13ozs, 1,729kgms.
Josh caught the only sizeable Smoothound of the match, a Starry at
1lb 2ozs, 0,510gms as well as 13 pout . The final zone victory went
to an angler I have mentioned in the last two match reports,TONY O`GRADY
from Gosport. This was Tony`s third zone win in a roll, notching up
an impressive 3 points, championship form, but not a record. Members
may recall that Southampton sea angler Mike Taylor gained five zone
wins in a roll which included three round victories. Nevertheless,
Tony`s three zone wins have been just as impressive and perhaps, against
tougher opposition! At the match he won zone A from peg 23, located
just to the left of Elmore Angling Club where he caught 5 x Pout and
a Dogfish of 1lb 8ozs, 0,680gms, the heaviest fish in zone.
