History of The Plough Tour

The Jockey Plough Tour was started when the late Roy Yarnell introduced it in to the Jockey Calendar in the early 1980s. The First Sunday after Epiphany is traditionally known as Plough Sunday by the Church and this would have been the day that ploughs would have been blessed. On the following day, Plough Monday, the plough boys would have taken their plough round their locality in hope of some treats from the farmers and land owners who they would do work for. It has been noted that if some kind of treat was not forthcoming then the plough would have been taken across the garden of that ungenerous person.
