SOME OF THE CLUB MEMBERS - DEC 2007 In the summer term of 2005 Mr. Lowe decided to do four introductory morris dance sessions after school. The pupils who took part enjoyed the activity so much that they wanted to continue their involvement in September of that year. I guess that's how The Crestwood Morris Club started. After learning some basic steps and just two dances the team were invited to visit Glebefields Primary School in Tipton to demonstrate what they had learnt to an audience of Key Stage 2 pupils. That was our first public performance and since then we have gone from strength to strength. |

Pupils from each year currently form the membership.
They have discovered that the activity is good exercise, involves teamwork,
allows you to make friends from other years as well as being good fun.
TRIPS AND VISITS Links have also been made with Birmingham Royal Ballet Company. Their director, David Bintley CBE, has incorporated traditional morris figures in to some of his contemporary work. Following a letter to Mr. Bintley after he appeared on a television programme about morris dancing he invited us in to their studios so that we could observe a dance class and watch a rehearsal prior to giving a short performance for the whole of the company. We are always looking for opportunities for the team to perform as we not only make great ambassadors for the school but these occasions give the pupils chance to perform to a wider audience which helps to sharpen their dancing skills. Our club kit comprises of a white long sleeved shirt, black trousers, black socks, black shoes and a baldrick in the school colours. We perform a variety of
traditional Cotswold morris stick, handkerchief and handclapping dances
from several village traditions. |
