Synoptic Situation at 0600 13/02/1963         next day

Marked cyclonic development has taken place in mid Atlantic and low, 964 mb, has
moved ENE to 55 N 28W, with troughs approaching Ireland.  Weak ridge coves the
Br.Isles and there is still high pressure over N Greenland linked to small high
over Scandinavia and to the Russian high.  Troughs have moved SE across
Scandinavia.

Weather over the British Isles:

Cloudy in the S and E with widespread, though light, sleet/snow or drizzle.
Clearer air was moving into the N and W as the ridge moved in.

Forecast:

Winds will increase gradually in all areas but not quickly enough to prevent
frost in the E tonight.  Strong to gale winds will eventually affect the W where
a thaw is expected.  Rain will extend to W and N areas preceded by sleet or snow
over high ground.  A slow thaw is expected in most other areas tomorrow.

Outlook:

The thaw with some rain or snow will probably extend to most parts but it may be
only temporary.
