Synoptic Situation at 0600 15/01/1963      next day

High, 1036mb, W of Ireland persists with a maritime NW airflow over the
British Isles.  Low, 1000mb, has drifted S slowly from the Baltic to Poland.
New low, 1016mb, moved through the Denmark Straight and has now turned SE
and is expected to move down near the E coast of Britain.  A large ridge
will intensify behind the low, and the anticyclone over the N of
Scandinavia, 1028mb,  will build further.  Low, 1004mb, NW of Azores moving
little.

Weather over the British Isles:

Less cold than of late with some sunshine and a few snow/sleet showers in
the S and E but more of rain in the far N, the wettest being Dyce with 7mm
of sleet.  Most places dry overnight with slight frost returning to most
places.

Forecast:

Some cloud with showers over Scotland and Ireland today, with more general
cloud and rain, with snow on hills, tonight.  Rather cold weather will
follow with wintry showers.  England and Wales will be dry at first but a
period of sleet or snow is likely during the night or tomorrow morning.  A
slow thaw will continue this afternoon.
