High Pressure extends from the Great Lakes through Greenland to W Russia,
with centre of 1044mb over E Greenland. Troughs moved SE across
Scandinavia. Low, 988mb, just W of Portugal is moving NE. Low,
996mb, SW
of Ireland has moved W a little. Shallow lows have moved E across France
with one centre, 1004mb, now over N Italy. Troughs still affect S England
and N France.
Weather over the British Isles:
The strong easterly persisted all the period and skies were cloudy except in
the far N. Diurnal variation of temperature was small.
Heavy rain affected parts of the far SW: Guernsey 8mm, Plymouth 13mm and
St
Mawgan 18mm, both with snow late in period, Culdrose 22mm. Snow fell in
some SE and E areas: Gatwick 5mm, Boscombe Down 17mm, Newcastle 5mm,
Leuchars 1mm, Glasgow trace and Roches Point 32mm (rain). Snow showers
affected many other stations.
