| Welcome to "the B's" web site - my daily driver! What's New
A Brief IntroductionThis site is a record of my dealings with my MG BGT's. The first GT I owned was bought in May 2003 after many years of thinking about maybe getting a classic! An MG was chosen as I liked the looks of them, knew there was a good selection available, and parts and advice were easy to come by! A midget was always the classic I thought I'd buy, but the BGT was chosen as I didn't have the time, money, or space to support two cars. The car I bought had to be a daily driver and it rains a lot in Manchester and is a 40 mile round trip to work! I didn't have the budget for a "C" or a V8, and with fairly basic mechanical knowledge I figured it was best to start with the standard 1800cc engine. The GT was preferred to the roadster on the grounds of practical everyday use in the rain and also again on budget. And used everyday it was! For 3 years my 1970 BGT (which was on an L plate as it was initially exported to The Isle of Man) served me well, doing about 40 miles a day, or about 10,000 miles a year. After 3 years however rust took it's toll and I bought a replacement. This was a 1967 BGT in Tartan Red. Very little history with the car, but it was solid and started and stopped! The 67 car and the 70 car.The purpose of this site is to provide somewhere for me to document what I learn and have learnt from dealing with these cars, in the hope that might help others with the same issues, and more importantly, to give me somewhere to put photo's. That way when I have a problem (as I often do) I can direct people to the pictures so they can offer advice! The people I'd be directing are the excellent contributors to both the MG Owners Club bulletin board (members only, but worth the annual fee on it's own!), and the MG cars website bulletin board (open to all). I have already saved myself a fortune by seeking their valuable advice! Other useful sources of information are the many other owners websites, some of which are in the links page, the excellent entune garage in Bolton, my local MG specialist, and of course an ever growing selection of books.
