RIP (Rust In Pieces) PTE!

How bad can a BGT get through daily use? Well, not having a clue when buying the car doesn't help, but over 3 years and 30k miles of daily use really punished PTE. When it was finally decided it needed replaced the following pics were taken to demonstrate where the tin worm can take hold! Remember, the back end of the car is excellent following the accident 2 years ago. So if you are looking at a B, don't forget the back!

This is the first lot of pics, taken when the car was still on the road, more will be added when it gets dismantled! Click on the picture for a larger view.

Wing_Driver.JPG (66895 bytes)Door_Driver.JPG (43843 bytes)
The front wing shown rust. The other side was better, with rust just bubbling from under the chrome strip.. The drivers door is rusted through. The passenger side is just beginning to show bubbling.

Seam_Driver.JPG (54403 bytes)Seam_Passenger.JPG (44572 bytes)

The drivers front seam is well gone, and it would be screen out for repairs to the scuttle panel. You can bet there will be a mess in there as well!! Again, the passenger side is in much better shape, but heading the same way. Give it another year or so and it would have been as bad!

Inner_Wing_Drive.JPG (71573 bytes)Inner_Wing_Passenger.JPG (66273 bytes)

The inner wings have not escaped the rust, with the driver side here. And the passenger side also in need of TLC.

Bulkhead.JPG (67194 bytes)Sill_Passenger.JPG (49477 bytes)

The bulk head also shows that there is rust in the core of the car! Almost impossible to repair properly once it is in the box section here! And the structural sill! Missing in action on the passenger side!

Sills2.jpg (38259 bytes)Sills4.jpg (60437 bytes)

This was the drivers side, just before patching 18 months ago. So it would also need repaired properly. A quick wiggle with a screw driver dug this from the hole, so I suspect there was not much of the inner sill left!
