Radio Interference Suppressor

I have been getting interference on my radio both on FM and MW. I usually listen to FM and so the interference was getting annoying. I have a windscreen mounted aerial which probably doesn't help, but I'm not willing to drill external panel for the sake of the radio! I decided to try fitting a radio interference suppressor from Halfords which was £7.95.

First I disconnected the battery and pulled the radio out from the dashboard, and was confronted by a right spaghetti mess!!

I had to reconnect the battery and use a voltmeter to find the live feed and earth. Once located I simply inserted the suppressor as instructed, which was into both the live feed and earth wires.

While I was in there I found that the power feed to the windscreen aerial had become disconnected (It has a booster and needs power when the radio is on). I also remade that connection. When the radio was tested with the car running FM was perfect, but MW was still barely useable. However, the next day on the way to work I noticed a huge improvement. Not sire why it wasn't immediate, but I can now easily listen to MW and get a reception for FM in areas of the journey that it used to go fuzzy. I am certain that this is mainly due to the suppressor and if you are having problems I would definitely try fitting one. It is only a 30 minute job and made a tremendous difference.
