B's BackgroundI bought the B with 64750 miles on the clock on the 20th of May 2003. No idea if this mileage is genuine, but it certainly hasn't traveled far in the past 15 years (only 30630 miles or just over 2000 miles per year), which is the period I have old MOT's for. The car has been a daily runner since and hasn't really let me down so far. I did have one time it stopped near home, but that was due to a stuck fuel pump after I had run out of petrol (oops!!). A bit of petrol and a few very firm taps with a hammer and I was off again (I now carry a spare pump!). Another couple of times I've had to stop for a few minutes to let the engine cool. The engine is fairly worn, but if you read the engine section you can see my plans to deal with this. The original destination of the car is shown on the heritage certificate as the Isle of Man. It was Flame Red with black trim, fitted with a heater and rostyle wheels. It was built on 4th of Feb 1970 and was dispatched the next day. Click on the picture below to see the information on the heritage certificate. It was brought back into the UK and registered 14th of November 1972. Since then it has had 12 previous owners. As it must have had an owner for the first couple of years I must be at least number 14, which averages a change of hands every 2 or 3 years. I certainly hope to keep it longer! The car seems to have been well cared for over the past 10 years or so, I have receipts running into the thousands in total! There were however some rather bad bodges. No idea how old they were, but mainly round the back end. These all got sorted when I got bashed! |
