About the Club
When founded in 1951 the club's main aim was the advancement of the Art and Science of Photography. It was also intended to stimulate, encourage, maintain interest in and make photographic records of beauty spots, places, buildings and events of interest and amenities in the urban area of Hoylake and West Kirby.
Today, we aim to do all this and much more. We have regular meetings at Newton Village Hall, Grange Cross Lane, West Kirby, from September to April when we have lectures from eminent photographers living relatively nearby. We also encourage members to take on an evening and tell us how they produce their photos. This may be a travel documentary or an explanation of how they have created new images from old. The aim is to stimulate new avenues of interest. Most members use digital techniques, although we still have slide workers.
We belong to the Lancashire and Cheshire Photographic Union (LCPU), which is an amalgamation of photographic societies in the two areas, which organises competitions, meetings and judges for the associated clubs
