"Dragonpix"

Margaret Salisbury FRPS FIPF MFIAP APAGB

"My love for photography started with the harsh landscapes of North Wales and Pictorial photography, taking pictures almost solely in monochrome, printing in the darkroom. Now with the ability to produce Digital prints of the quality which could be obtained with 'silver printing', I have renewed my interest in monochrome including new images of the Slate Industry and landscape photography.

A visit to Africa to a Wedding resulted in an essay on Village life in Ghana with which images I was awarded the MFIAP (Master Artist of the International Federation of Photographic Art), an award held by little more than 150 photographers worldwide and a Fellowship of the Irish Photographic Federation."

Saturday 28th April

Annual Print Competition - 9.30 am start

Judge: Dianne Owen, FRPS

"I have always had an interest in photography, starting at a young age. My uncle showed me the magic of processing an image in darkroom trays. One of the biggest steps was when I was encouraged by a friend to join Southport PS. I gained friendship of like minded people, guidance and developed my photographic skills. Not long after joining Southport PS we had a talk from Rikki O’Neill and that defined what I wanted to do with my photography. He was later to become my mentor for my panels and a good friend.

Working in the darkroom, making images slightly different, adding drops of water to a glass plate over the developer and seeing what happened. A time consuming job. The digital age allowed the creative process, finding new skills and the ability correct and to save it ‘til later! The creative process is now easier to deal with, bringing another dimension to the image and adding mood and emotion, . In my images I hope to bring a memory or special moment back, to sprinkle the image with a little magic for the viewer. Still Life is a favourite of mine, as it’s easier to fit in to the limited time I have available. On starting an image the relationship of the elements in it are so important, the shape, form and balance, that creates the final piece has to fit together completely. I like to bring a reflection of emotion and make it in my own style. Many people ask where I get my ideas from. I spend many hours wandering round the internet looking at other photo and art sites, these are simply absorbed into the subconscious. if you check out the links, there are some of my inspirations."
