Race for Life

2006 Race for Life Update from Helen Nassau, National Events Executive at Race for Life

Just wanted to update you on the money raised from this year’s Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life events that were held in Nottingham.

Victoria Embankment (am race) raised £250,097.53      57% of participants have returned their money

Victoria Embankment (pm race) raised £227,463.06      51% of participants have returned their money

Holme Pierre Pont raised £108,885.69                            30% of participants have returned their money

As a charity we rely almost entirely on public donations to fund our life-saving research.  Every single penny makes a difference, however small.

Cancer Research UK funds more than 3,000 scientists, doctors and nurses based throughout the UK and thanks to the research they carry out advances are being made in the treatment of cancer and lives are being saved.  Here are some motivating statistics that illustrate the progress being made:

>       Survival rates have increased for nearly all cancers

>       The death rate for cancer in the UK has decreased by 11 per cent over the last decade.

>       The death rate for breast cancer in the UK has fallen by 20 per cent in the last 10 years.

>       Around 95 per cent of men with testicular cancer are now successfully treated.

>       More than 7 out of 10 children with cancer now survive.

Once again thank you for your continued support of Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life.

Kind regards

Helen Nassau
