The NASS Oxford Branch holds weekly exercise sessions every Wednesday evening (6:00pm) at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Windmill Road, Headington, Oxford. The sessions are specifically for those who have been diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS). If you have AS you will be more than welcome - come along when you can. See the links for directions on how to get there.
Come and get moving !

General Information :

NASS is the national organisation for Ankylosing Spondylitis that forms and supports a network of branches around the country.

Each branch is run and supported by motivated spondylitics and is backed by physiotherapists who support the branch members through supervised physiotherapy sessions.

Without this commitment, and the supporting physiotherapists, branches would not exist as supervised physiotherapy is the core activity of each branch.

At the Oxford branch there is currently a contribution required of £5 (GBPounds) for each Gym or Hydrotherapy session.
Some discounts are available for frequent attenders !

See below for session dates etc.

How to get to NASS sessions at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford:

Go Back to Top of Page

-         The venues for both Gym and Hydro are located close to each other in the first phase of the new building at the NOC. This is the new building on the immediate left as you come in the entrance road to the NOC from Windmill Road.

-         From Windmill Road follow the path to the far end of the new building and then follow the path round to your left.

-         Just round the corner (approx. 30/40 yards) is the entrance to the new first phase building.

-         Enter the building and turn left and go to the end of the corridor.

-         Follow the instructions below depending on which session you are going to.

Gym Sessions:

- At the end of this corridor the new Physiotherapy department and GYM is through the last set of double doors at the end of the corridor (on the RIGHT).

- Go through these doors and after 20/30 yards you will come to the Physiotherapy reception area - the GYM is on the left.

Hydrotherapy Sessions:

-        At the end of this corridor the Hydro Pool reception area is through the last set of double doors (on the LEFT).

-        Because of the security in the new building you will not be able to enter the Hydro Pool reception area until a member of staff or hydro group member lets you in from the inside!

-        Its probably best if you let me know in advance you are coming to these sessions then we can get the pool assistant to look out for you if you are late - otherwise when we move from the reception area to the pool itself we can not see if there is anyone outside in the corridor!

Free Car Parking Information:

In addition to the N.O.C.'s own car parks where you have to pay to park there are several blocks of free car parking in the roads around the Windmill Road entrance to the N.O.C.

While most of the local parking is marked as "residents only" there is normally a free area in most of the roads in the area. They are all marked for either 2 or 3 hours parking with no return within 2 hours - this is quite adequate for a NASS session.

The nearest is the block of 4/5 free spaces immediately outside the N.O.C. on Windmill Road.

There are also 2 blocks of free spaces in Margaret Road, (one near to Windmill Road and the other one between York Road and St.Anne's Road).

There is one at the other end of St.Anne's Road (next to the junction with Rock Edge) and at least one other in York Road.

See the map opposite.
