Help with Tune Required

Based on older ditties, Salome gained popularity in the desert of North Africa in WW2 - As with all these songs, there are general versions and those favoured in the RN and Army, each of which freely moved around. Her on the left we have the RN version, that was extremly popular in the Mediterranean theatre of war, whilstthat on the right is recorded from the voices of an ex soldier, but also known to nodern sailors as well.

Having survived the intervening decades, it firmly remains one of the more popular of these exotic songs. Often heard in mess sing songs, though in the current Navy, more often at football matches or sport's runs.

Essentially the song is an example of the popular medlays, so favoured by the RN. Often liked with the song 'Venal Vera' . Whilst readers should note that mostof the attached songs such as Venal Vera & Sunbeam can also be heard or sung independently. In particular you might hear 'Chiefy wants me for a sunbeam', as your 'oppo' retires down the passageway ater being given a make and mend.

Although in research, I have a couple of inarticulate renderings, which the quality and circumstance of the recording alone, presents difficulty - If you can help with the tune of Salome - Please contact me. As what is on offer here, is probably not quite right.

But in this respect thanks to John Patrick and his excellent website of folk music , The late Ted Heap and his superb manuscript of 1950's songs, plus the many others who have helped along the way.
