The next day my wife took the opportunity to see for herself the cause of the sudden depreciation in our bank balance ! Is a cold, damp winter’s day the best time to introduce one’s wife to the pleasures of boating? Luckily she seemed to approve and was soon climbing aboard and exploring the facilities below decks while I gave the outside of the hull a close inspection for anything the surveyor might have missed !! It is interesting to note that on first inspection the surveyor came back with the wrong  dimensions for the hull, so it’s as well to double check everything yourself !!
Everything having been found to be in the condition expected for a 10 year old boat that has been in family use, I joined my wife on board and found the various documents relating to the vessel which had been left in the cabin for me. The Log Book was fascinating, being not only a record of voyages undertaken and maintenance tasks performed on the engine but a glimpse into the lives of the previous owners. “Tinally” had started her life on the Thames, cruised regularly at weekends, taken part in a Treasure Hunt, been visted by friends and relatives........it was all coming alive for me . I couldn’t
