“Tinally” is one of only 15 Saturn 25s manufactured at Catfield in Norfolk during the late 80s and early 90s by S.J.L. Moulders to a design by Brian Owens. Priced at around £20,000 it was built to a high standard using quality materials. Kits for home completion started at £3.475.00 + VAT and they could be finished as a fishing boat, a sports boat or, as in the case of “Tinally”, as an inland cruiser for family use. As far as I know, she is the only one of the 15 to appear as a hard-top version.
I found “Tinally” at Middle Brook Marine ( now Sunshine Marine ) in Cheshire. She was safely transported by road to Lincolnshire on a particularly damp and dismal day in November 2002, arriving as the light was beginning to fade at 3.00pm. For the first time I experienced the trauma of watching my money dangling on the end of a rope as she was craned off the lorry and chocked up for winter in the boatyard. An “interesting” hour followed as my rapidly numbing fingers struggled for the first time with the intricacies of the cover before it was time to leave her for her first night in her new home.
