Open Sessions are an informal meeting of like-minded musicians and/or singers, usually in a public house. Different sessions run on different lines. At one it may be a case of performing when a space occurs and the mood takes you, at another the proceedings may be more formal with a chairman nominating the next singer or musician, or it may be that everyone takes turns. There could be other distinguishing factors and elements to the etiquette expected at any particular session. It always makes sense to contact the organiser.

folk/accoustic The Greyhound Sessions The Fox, Pirton, Pirton is just to the north-west of Hitchin, off the B655 Barton – Hitchin road. Alternatively, you can reach Pirton from the A600, by going through Holwell. The sessions start at about 8.00 p.m., on the 2nd Wednesday of the month and often involve as many as twenty musicians. blues The Bishops Blues Club The Bishops Blues Club organised by Blues Alive operates at the Half Moon in Bishop's Stortford, is a traditional pub located in the heart of the town. As well as serving excellent real ales it has a self-contained area "the Long Room" situated at the rear of the pub complete with stage and bar. Every Wednesday there is either a gig by a band or solo artist, or a jam night.
