The Newport and
District Flying Club was formed late in 1998 at the old Childs
Ercall airfield which is about 6 miles from Market Drayton
Shropshire, and is about 2 miles off the A41 road heading towards
Newport. We have a membership limit of 65 members. Membership
averages around 50 throughout the year so there is always room for
more.
The club affiliated
with the BMFA (British Model Flying Association) in 1999 and the
BMFA safety codes were adopted as standard practice and are strictly
adhered to. Anyone who wants fly solo must have passed their 'A'
certificate and be a member of the BMFA. The club has qualified BMFA
examiners for candidates to take their 'A' certificate and become
safe and proficient model flyers.
As of 2005 all members
will have frequencies issued to them for use within the club. The
idea of members having their own frequencies is to spread channel
use over the 35 MHz band. With a possible 36 channels to use there
shouldn't be any more than two people on any one channel. The main
advantages are that you shouldn't have to wait long for your
frequency to become free, as well as less chance of an inadvertent
switch on causing interference to another aircraft. Please note
though, a peg board will still be used for the safety reasons.
Full planning
permission was obtained in mid 2004 for our flying site with certain
restrictions for I.C aircraft which are:
-
Restricted flying
times for I.C models
-
All I.C aircraft
including guests must be noise tested and meet the D.O.E
(Department Of the Environment) recommendations of 82db measured
at a distance of 7 metres at a height of between 1 and 2 metres
above a non reflective surface (such as grass). Before flying,
the details of the noise test will then be recorded in the log
book.
If you are interested
or just curious about radio controlled aircraft please don't
hesitate to contact us via this web site, or visit us at our flying
site. See the
MAP
for directions of how
to find us. We are a very friendly club and make everyone who visits
us feel at home and very welcome.
