Service Before Self

WHAT IS ROTARY

The Rotary organisation was formed by a Chicago Lawyer called Paul Harris as a club for a few like minded businessmen in 1905 and from that beginning has become the largest service organisation in the world. They gave this first club the name "Rotary" as a reflection of the rotation of meeting venue as each member of the club hosted and chaired a meeting in turn.

Now it is a world wide association of local clubs for people whose aims are to:-

---provide humanitarian service to the community at local, national and international level.

---encourage high ethical standards in all aspects of life and vocations.

---work for peace and goodwill throughout the peoples of the world.

Throughout the World there are more than 1.2 million Rotarians meeting in more than 31,000 clubs in 166 countries.

Rotary gives its members the opportunity to put something back into the "global" community in recognition of what that community has done for them.
