Apologises

This is well behind its proper release date for which I am sorry, but I have continued to struggle with Water Orton, the model, more of which I plan to describe  in the next issue in the hope that others will not suffer a similar fate.

Also the exhibition season is upon us and Waterstock seems to be proving popular on the circuit so weekends are often taken up with operating at or visiting venues; add to that a decision to investigate what will be required to install the proposed working signalling, which has provided a very nasty shock (more of that next time). Also Autumn is upon us requiring much mowing, garden clean-ups, leaf collecting and general maintenance before winter sets in, and time has generally passed quickly.

I also continue to have what I suppose is “writers block” and cannot for the life of me produce the imaginative stuff I used to, so I often sit down to type and the “muse” doesn’t take me leaving me a hour lost and only a title or a couple of words on the screen. It’s very frustrating as rubbish used to flood out without any problem. You see even I know what it’s like but I have been told it is entertaining rubbish … sometimes.

MPT a “Political Animal”?

I am usually one of those people who feel that discussions of politics and religion should be avoided at all costs, but while on holiday abroad I saw a news report from the UK which seriously worried me and I felt that something must be said.

We have always had a plethora of political beliefs in this country from the far left to the far right and all have continued to attempt to justify their existence to the British public, with neither extreme gaining much credence or backing from the British public. If you disagree with anything you are entitled to say so and lawfully protest.

Therefore, when ten to a dozen of far right “herberts” recently protested at the building of another mosque and the “Islamification” of the UK, it was no real surprise and should have passed without much problem; as the “mass” demonstration of 10-12 people expressed their opinion and were then “moved on” by the local “fuzz”; if this were the old UK of my youth.

These 10-12 citizens should not unduly concern you or I as we know precisely who and what they are and that they were expressing an opinion, with which you may or may not agree.

However, the 4000+ “peace loving” anti-fascists who attempted to stop the protest and deny them their freedom of speech, by violent assault and stoning, do concern me greatly. They appear to feel that no one has the right to any belief other than theirs and are quite prepared to do violence to any who do not conform or think differently, while not allowing any protest, difference of opinion or criticism. Fascism!!! Is the pot calling the kettle black? Mr Hitler would be proud of them.

These “peace loving” citizens do not seem to grasp the most fundamental principal of this island and one of the main reasons why so many are struggling to get into this country, if you don’t like it, you may say so, without let or hindrance. Such debate has formed the continuing evolution of our political systems and laws and should be protected at all costs by all who claim to be citizens of the UK, and not adhered to when it suits you.

We should beware what the future may hold.

The opinion expressed above is in no way connected to the WMNGC or is necessarily that of any other members.

It is quite a while since the Lady Millicent has featured in these columns, but here she is observing construction of several bits for Water Orton. I am very pleased to inform you that her butler bought her own bottle of Spritzer.

Please note the look of peaceful serenity and superiority on her face.

I wonder how much spritzer she has had already?

Stop Press

Frightliner

Well here it is in full war-paint, but it appears that even skilful painting doesn’t rescue this creation. It remains a horrible, horrible pile with odd bits sticking out here and there all over it. I also notice that the Americans seem to be up to number 70006 all ready, which convinces me that even they don’t want them around for very long.

I quote from a published report “Peter Maybury, Freightliner Group CEO, visited GE’s Erie factory in August and was impressed with progress, saying that his first sight of them almost bought tears to his eyes”! I know just how he must feel, they do precisely the same to me.

Also please note that we  now know who to blame, and that the numbers applicable are 70xxx and not 68xxx as many have stated, and which also appears in my latest spotters book. Yes I do have one, and have had since about 1952; so there, and nuts to you!
